The Houston Astros have traded minor league catcher Alfredo Gonzalez to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for cash considerations.

Gonzalez, 23, was designated for for assignment on June 25 in a move to add A.J. Reed to the 40-man roster. He was batting .158 (23x146) with five doubles, seven RBIs, 14 walks and 14 runs scored over 44 games with Double-A Corpus Christi. He has thrown out 45.5 percent (18x33) of attempted base stealers this season.
Gonzalez is a career batting average of .236 (211-894) with 28 doubles, seven home runs and 85 RBIs in 284 games over seven minor-league seasons in the Astros system.
González, a native of Santa Teresa del Tuy, Venezuela, originally signed by the Astros as an international free agent on July 23, 2008.
