Houston Astros top first baseman prospect A.J. Reed hasn't gotten off the to start he wanted. Reed hadn't collected a hit in his first four games in the majors. He had 15 at-bats without a hit. But he broke through in his fifth game on Friday as was at designated hitter.
Reed was already 0-for-1 and facing the White Sox's Miguel Gonzalez. Gonzalez threw Reed a first-pitch changeup and he was way out front but fisted the pitch down the right field line.
The ball was collected by Reed and given to Jose Altuve. Altuve promptly threw the ball into the stands. Well..it wasn't Reed's first hit ball but another stand in ball given to him by Doug Fister.
A fun prank for the rookie. But I'm sure this first hit will only spark Reed to many more balls in play this season. Now watch the video of Altuve messing with Reed:
