Cuban infielder Yulieski Gurriel has been making the rounds after being granted free agency this month by Major League Baseball. Gurriel has already made stops with the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets. It appears he's next stop was with Houston, Gurriel posted an Instagram photo of him in an Astros hat on Wednesday.
Gurriel, 32, is a rare talent to be on the market at this time in the season. He would have to catch to major league pitching with a trip to the minors. He has some pop in his bat and can hold his own at third and second base.
Gurriel hit .305 (73x239) with 22 doubles, 11 home runs, and 30 RBIs Yokohama Bay Stars in Japan during the 2014 season. He batted .500 (87x174) during the 2015 Cuban National Series with Industriales de La Habana.
MLB.com's Brian McTaggart reported that Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow was in fact at the workout:
