Astros Prospect Report: June 30th, 2016

At the bare minimum, you have to look at Fresno's game...you will have to turn in your fan card if you don't.

Reinhold Matay-USA TODAY Sports

Fresno's Offense Explodes in 23-3 Win

I honestly don't know what to talk about....

Preston Tucker hits three home runs...

Teoscar Hernandez was a double short of the cycle in his first Triple-A game...

Jon Kemmer's bat is starting to look more like his Double-A numbers....

How about a curveball?

Brady Rodgers had more walks than strikeouts....huh?

Or maybe that Bregatron went 4-5 with two doubles in his Triple-A debut...

I don't know! I don't have enough time!

This is what happens when you inject the type of talent that Teoscar and Alex Bregman have into a lineup.

Hooks Offense Falters in 3-1 Loss

As mentioned before, if you add the talent of Alex Bregman and Teoscar Hernandez, you'll flourish. But, if you subtract it, you'll flounder. Well, in the first game without those two, the Hooks floundered. The lone bright spot for the offense was J.D. Davis hitting his 12th home run and picking up two hits. Derek Fisher even struggled as an individual as he struck out four times, and then ejected after his last one.

Nunez Leads Lancaster in 5-1 Win

These JuCo selections are trickling up the ladder in the Astros system. Antonio Nunez was one from the 2014 draft and is now holding down shortstop for Lancaster. He's pretty punchless, but he draws a lot of walks. Last night, he lead the team in hits with three but then also swiped second and third to show some versatility.

QC Rides Pair of HR's in 6-3 Win

I liked Pat Porter a lot after the 2015 draft. He seemed like a guy who could fit in well in the system, especially after a solid showing in Tri-City. This year hasn't gone well. His BABIP has plummeted which makes his sub-.200 batting average overshadow his big uptick in walk-rate to 12.4%. But, he is just not able to drive enough balls at this time. Connor Goedert is experiencing a lot of the same issues except that his walk-rate has plummeted. But, they both hit home runs!

And, I haven't seen anything on why Kyle Tucker was pulled.

Wrenn Leads TC Again in 8-4

I've said several times now. In fact I said it last night when I was having dinner with Tim Deblock (ya'll remember him, right?). Stephen Wrenn is one of my favorite picks from this draft. He's why that at the end of the day, when it comes to amateur players, you gotta scout. You can't just look at numbers, it takes both. Wrenn had tools. He had numbers trending the right way with his sophomore season. But, you can't predict a ball to the face. And you can't see in the numbers that he still had the talent but that he took awhile to recover. He now has hit more home runs in 13 games for TC than he did in over 50 for UGA this year. Despite being a solid center fielder with good speed, he has been moved to the clean up spot because he's showing the most power on the team.

Just a day after hitting for the cycle, Connor MacDonald didn't register a hit and actually struck out in all three of his plate appearances. Can't predict baseball.

GCL Astros Lose 9-7

GCL Rule #1: Never get excited about GCL Stats

GCL Rule #2: Never talk about Fight C.....

I'm gonna break Rule #1...well maybe not actually get excited, but more along of the lines of extremely intrigued. I have no clue who Jorge Alcala is or anything about him other than some stats.

In 2015, he struggled. He tossed 32 1/3 innings for the DSL Blue team. He had a 20/19 SO/BB ratio which is quite atrocious. However, he at least found a way to get a 3.06 ERA.

In 2016, the 6'3", 180 pound pitcher out of the Dominican Republic has pitched nine innings in two games. But, here's the turnaround; he has a 16/1 SO/BB ratio. Dead serious.

Intrigued yet?
