The draft season approaches with much less fanfare this year for Astros fans as Houston selects much further back than usual. The Astros won't select a player until pick number seventeen and the last time they selected that far back was 2010 when Jiovanni Mier had his name called.
In Baseball America's most recent mock draft, they have the Astros selecting T.J. Zeuch. He's a RHP out of the University of Pittsburgh. Zeuch is a very big pitcher, standing 6'7" and weighing 225 pounds. He pitching the Cape Cod League last summer and did very well.
He's a mid-90's pitcher with an upper-80's slider that he uses as a swing-and-miss type pitch. He also has a good curveball but his changeup is currently lacking. He's been able to 74 strikeouts to 19 walks in his 69 2/3 innings this season.
BA also considered Eric Lauer (LHP; Kent State) and Cody Sedlock (RHP, Illinois). They also mentioned that Jeff Luhnow was Pitt's conference tournament game earlier this week to see Zeuch. Zach Burdi was also mentioned as a strong possibility if he were to drop to pick seventeen.
