Astros Prospect Report: Games of May 22, 2016

Triple A: Fresno (17-25) at Memphis (17-23)

Fresno was in a scoreless affair until the 6th. Then the Redbirds blew it open.

Mike Hauschild had pitched a solid game. An error by Jon Kemmer in the 6th led to 3 runs being scored (2 of those unearned). Other than that, Hauschild was his usual self getting people to hit ground balls. Hauschild is 26 and not a "prospect" by any means, but he's always been on my radar thanks to his solid ground ball rate.

Not much offense in this game. Fresno had 6 hits, but not a single one of them was an extra base hit. Preston Tucker continues to struggle hitting .105. Similar to the current Astros lineup, Danny Worth is batting .341 and the next highest average on the team in Sunday's game was AJ Reed clocking it at .234. This lineup is missing Kemp and Moran pretty badly.

AJ Reed left the game early, but word on Twitter was that it was likely just precautionary. He just came off the DL.

Double A: Corpus Christi (25-17) at Midland (22-20)

Corpus was able to scratch a run across in the top of the 9th to tie the game up at 6, but Brendan McCurry was not able to keep a zero on the board in the bottom of the 10th.

The Hooks lineup had a good night. They piled up 14 hits, including 5 doubles and a homer. The homer came off of the bat of Conrad Gregor who has struggled badly this season. JD Davis continued his hot hitting with a single and 2 doubles. Another positive with Davis is that he's dropped his K rate from 28.4% in 2015 to 23.5% this year. He's also walking at a 10.1% clip.

Alex Bregman had such an un-Bregatronian day, ONLY getting 1 hit and ONLY 1 walk.

The Hooks lose 7-6 in 10 innings.

Class A Advanced: Lancaster (19-22) at High Desert (28-16)

Lancaster only managed 2 hits while High Desert had 10.

Joshua James pitched alright. He went 5.2 and only allowed 1 earned. He walked three but struck out 4. James is one to keep an eye on. I featured him in my "Forgotten Few" series last year (which starts up on Thursday again). Here's his line this year and in his career.

He's likely been a bit lucky with some BABIP, but a WHIP barely over 1 coupled with that strikeout rate in the CAL league is nothing to sneeze at. Good stuff.

The RiverBandits were able reach base 9 times but only scored once. Kyle Tucker has cooled off just a little, but he's still hitting .311. The pitching was just brutal in this one.
