Astros Prospect Report: April 28th, 2016

Reviewing the action that you may have missed during the first round of the NFL draft.

Reinhold Matay-USA TODAY Sports

While you were watching the NFL draft, this happened.

Trio of Home Runs Power Fresno Past El Paso 4-2

Jon Singleton picked up his fourth homer. AJ Reed knocked his fifth out of the park. Eury Perez hit his first bomb. Those knocks powered the offense but I'd be remised if I failed to mention the pitching. I've been down on Asher Wojciechowski recently and I know many fans have as well. However, we all have to give him plenty of props for his outstanding start last night which resulted in a 69 game score. Nine strikeouts in seven innings and just six base runners.

Pitchers Struggle in Hooks 8-1 Loss

Just not a lot of things to talk about in this one. Brendan McCurry is probably the highlight as he's the only pitcher not to give up a run. He's been great with a 15/2 SO/BB ratio so far and a 2.4 GO/AO ratio as well. He's been quite the return in 11 innings.

Lancaster Wins 5-4 on Walk-Off Hit by Pitch

You read that right. It's not every day that a HBP ends a game. Heading into the ninth, the JetHawks were down 4-3 and held ground in the top of the ninth. But, in the bottom of the ninth, Bakersfield started to unravel. Ramon Morta came in and gave up a single to Nick Tanielu who then took second on a wild pitch but held ground on an infield single by Bobby Boyd. Jason Martin then struck out for the first out. Ramon Laureano then walked to load the bases. Jamie Ritche then singled in one run to keep the bases loaded. Then Morta hit Alejandro Garcia to walk in the game ending run.

Goedert Leads QC in Game 1 Win 11-2

Connor Goedert didn't start the season in QC but has joined the team and was inserted into the heart of the order immediately but the results were lacking in a VERY small sample. Game one went a long way to correct it as he hit his first double and home run. We know that Pollo Rojo has power from his days in JuCo as well as in Greeneville last year. Just need to see that contact rate improve to improve the average and lower the strikeout rate.

Daz Cameron also stole two bases while Johnny Seward and Osvaldo Duarte each stole one.

Bower/Garza Blank South Bend in GM Two 3-0

Goedert picked up another double in game two which brought his batting average over the Mendoza line but it was Dexture McCall's home run that allowed for the River Bandits to jump out ahead by three.

Matt Bower and Ralph Garza combined for seven strikeouts in the shutout and Bower took six of them in his five innings. He now has an 18/3 SO/BB ratio in twelve innings.
