The Astros' Minor League affiliates won out across the board by three runs or less in each game

There was a little bit of everything this day in the minor league system: walks, hits, runs, good pitching, power, and - most importantly - Astros wins!

AAA Fresno Grizzlies: WON 3-2 over the Salt Lake Bees (LAA)

A.J. Reed continued his recent torpor at the plate, notching an 0-4 day with a strikeout.  Not only did he not log a hit, and not only did he strike out, but the first two outs he made were on a pop out to shortstop and then lined out softly to third base, while his third at bat was his strikeout. In his fourth time to the plate, he did manage to reach on a fielding error by Bees third baseman Kyle Kubitza. His struggles came largely against a left handed starter, Tyler Skaggs.

What scoring there was in this game opened in the bottom of the third inning.  Roberto Pena led off the inning with a single on a line drive to left field, Andrew Aplin followed with a walk, and then Tony Kemp laid down a sacrifice bunt to move both runners up ninety feet.  Eury Perez reached on a fielding error by Bees first baseman Jefry Marte, and Roberto Pena scored from third while Andrew Aplin moved up from second.

In the subsequent at bat by Danny Worth, Andrew Aplin was picked off third by catcher Juan Graterol.  After an ensuing 2-5-2-5-1 run down, Aplin was tagged out and Eury Perez moved to third, where he'd be stranded after Danny Worth struck out.

In the bottom half of the fourth inning, after Reed lined out softly against the lefty Skaggs to lead off the inning, Matt Duffy drew a walk and Jon Kemmer posted an impressive at bat, going deep to the opposite field against the southpaw to extend the Grizzlies' lead for good.

Starter Michael Feliz cruised early, denying the Bees even a single hit, walking three hitters, and striking out three in his first four and two-thirds innings of work.  In the fifth, however, he appeared to tire some.  He walked the lead off man, Rey Navarro, but nearly erased his walked batter on a double play ball for the second time in the game.  As it ended up, the lead runner was cut down but Kaleb Cowart reached first on the fielder's choice.  After a fly out and a line drive single by Juan Graterol, Quintin Berry doubled in both base runners to cut the lead to 3-2 for the Grizzlies.  And there the score would stand the rest of the game.

Feliz finished with five innings pitched, just two hits, three walks, and three strikeouts.  Both runs against him were earned.  Juan Minaya and Cesar Valdez each worked scoreless relief appearances to earn holds, and James Hoyt was his usual brilliant self in the ninth inning, allowing no hits and no walks and recording two strikeouts to earn the save.

Also of note in this game was the fact that Danny Worth had his season-opening ten game hit streak finally snapped, as he went 0-4 with three strikeouts on the day.

AA Corpus Christi: OFF

The Corpus Christi Hooks were off this day and will resume play on the 21st of April back home at Whataburger Field against the first place Frisco RoughRiders, whom the Hooks currently trail by a game in their division coming into the start of a four game series.

High A Lancaster: WON 6-3 over the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (LAD)

The Jethawks went three for four in stolen bases in the game and received a pair of doubles from starting second baseman Nick Tanielu in a 3-4 effort to cruise to victory, staving off a late comeback attempt by the Quakes.

Starter Evan Grills worked five innings to earn the win, allowing five hits - four singles and a double - against one run (earned) with one walk and three strikeouts.  Angel Heredia followed a scoreless pair of relief innings by Yeyfry Del Rosario by allowing a double and a home run to lead off the eighth inning before settling down and retiring the next two batters on strikes, allowing a walk, and then finishing off the inning with a third strike out.  And, ho hum, Riley Ferrell continued his ninth inning dominance by inducing two ground outs to lead off the inning and finishing with a strikeout, notching his third save of the young season.

Outside of Tanielu's standout offensive night, the only other 'Hawks player to notch multiple hits was center fielder Ramon Laureano, who went 2-4 in the win with a pair of singles, an RBI, and a run scored.  First baseman Bryan Muniz had the only other extra base hit, a double of his own.

Low A Quad Cities: WON 5-2 over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (MIL)

The seemingly-light-hitting (early results, anyway) River Bandits slashed a trio of doubles and had opposite base stealing fortunes from their High-A counterparts in Lancaster (the Bandits were thrown out stealing three of four attempts, two of which belonged to starting shortstop Antonio Nunez, who attempted to steal second after each of his singles and was cut down both times) in a win over the Timber Rattlers on Wednesday.

Daz Cameron and Kyle Tucker each logged a single hit - appropriately, both singles - with Tucker adding a stolen base.  Continuing his early strikeout woes, Daz Cameron also had a pair of strikeouts on the night.  However, his one single did drive in the Bandits' second run of the game.

Third baseman Bobby Wernes opened the scoring for the game with a double on the ground to right field, scoring Aaron Mizell.  After the Cameron single, Wernes himself scored to make it 2-0 Quakes.

The Rattlers answered back in the bottom of the fifth, when Luis Aviles tripled to plate both Elvis Rubio and Alan Sharkey to tie the game at two apiece, where it would stay until the eighth inning.

Johnny Sewald knocked one of the three doubles to lead off the eighth inning, and then stole third base on a called strike three to Daz Cameron.  Tucker followed with his walk, and then Connor Goedert singled Sewald home to give the Bandits the lead for good. Brooks Marlow added the third and final double of the night for the Bandits, scoring both runners and driving the score up to 5-2 in favor of the River Bandits.

In the pitching department, hard-throwing Albert Abreu started the game and worked five and two-thirds innings pitched, fanning six (including the last two men he faced, to lead off the sixth inning) and allowing four hits, two earned runs, and one walk.  Jacob Dorris relieve him in the sixth inning and pitched three and a third innings of brilliant relief, allowing just a single and a walk while striking out four.  Abreu recorded nine ground outs to just two fly ball outs, while Dorris recorded three ground outs to just one fly out.
