The Winter Meetings are the place to dream big when it comes to trades. Many outside of Houston will be dreaming of Alex Bregman in any trade involved with the Astros.

But one resounding message has come out of Houston in response to Bregman as a trade piece: no.

The Astros had been linked to the White Sox’s Chris Sale before he was traded to the Red Sox on Tuesday. Houston apparently had made headway but the White Sox wanted Bregman.

ESPN’s Buster Olney reported that someone one close to the Astros said there was “No chance” that Bregman would be included as part of a Sale trade.

Jon Heyman confirmed that fact on Monday:

Now, what does that mean for Houston? Well, of course, it first means that Chris Sale won’t be wearing an Astros uniform. Two, that the fact that Bregman won’t be including in possible deal for Chris Archer or Jose Quintana.

Can a deal headlined by Francis Martes, Kyle Tucker, and David Paulino etc. get a deal done for a front line starter?
