Yankees’ pursuit of Astros veteran in difficult spot | New York Post
NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. – Luis Valbuena’s representative, Steve Schneider, described the Yankees as one of "several" teams in "ongoing" dialogue about his client. By phone, Schneider said he has received a few offers, but would not say if the Yankees made one. Schneider also would not define what he is looking for beyond saying his client wants more than "one year" on a contract. The Yankees found initial requests too high, sources said. Schneider also said Valbuena is looking to be an everyday player, even if it is at a variety of positions. The Yankees would not be able to offer that unless they were able to trade Chase Headley, which they have tried to do unsuccessfully. Schneider said "patience is part of the process" as teams work through other players and trade options, and he described talks with the Yankees as "continuing." The lefty-swinging Valbuena was on the way to his best season in 2016 with the Astros, with 13 homers and an .816 OPS through late July, before he injured his hamstring. He ultimately needed surgery and was lost for the season.
