The AFL season went down to the final day for Glendale; they won their final game, but they needed a Surprise loss to seal the deal, and Surprise won. Hey, half a game away is pretty good considering the super-slow start they got off to.

Nick Tanielu finishes his brief AFL stint hitting .352/.379/.500. The team did notably better after he joined the lineup. In 14 games, he smacked six extra-base hits and stuck out just seven times.

Low strike out totals is a theme. Jason Martin, in his 11 games, whiffed just four times, and drew twice as many walks. He finished with a healthy .375 OBP despite a low average. He's likely secured himself on the Double-A Corpus Christi Hooks' opening day roster next year.

And Garrett Stubbs also struck out just 10 times in 20 games. He walked to first base 10 times himself.

On the pitching staff, Francis Martes worked six games, compiling a 3.22 ERA in 22.1 innings. His peripherals were solid, with a 3.6 BB/9 and a 10.1 K/9. David Paulino was used as a reliever, posting five innings in five games (not including the Fall Stars Game). He didn't allow a single run. Jacob Dorris and his funky mechanics turned some heads, too; while control problems persisted (10 walks in eight innings), he punched out 15 batters, for a stunning 16.9 K/9.
