A quick note about this coming final week; each team has four games left (Monday through Thursday). Thanks to Glendale getting their act together the last couple of weeks, they're 14-14 and 1.5 games out of first. They need Surprise and Peoria to lose some games this week while they win and they'll have a shot at the AFL Championship game on Saturday. Keep an eye on that.
I didn't see or hear any news about it, but Ramon Laureano hasn't played in a while and he's no longer on Glendale's roster. I don't know if he was injured or just shut down due to exhaustion ala A.J. Reed last season or what. Based on the frequency at which Jason Martin has been playing this week, I'm assuming Martin just kind of got upgraded to a full roster member or something.
Speaking of J-Mart, he isn't hitting a ton, but I'm not complaining; eight walks against four strike outs in his 10 games in the AFL. He's also 2-for-2 in steal attempts. Considering how advanced the rest of the league is and how young he is (not to mention his inconsistent playing time), this is a pretty darn great result.
Tanielu had himself a solid week. He's hitting .333/.375/.389 in 10 games and Glendale started winning right around the time he joined the team. He's been hitting mostly in the middle-ish part of the order and looks to be contributing well.
Like Martin, Stubbs isn't hitting much, but there are positives. In 18 games, he's posting a 13.5% walk rate against a 12.2% strike out rate. His BAbip of just .208 is notable. He's also swiped two bags, continuing the trend of running a lot better than you'd expect from a backstop (he nabbed 15 bases in 86 games during the Minor League season).
Martes bounced back nicely after getting roughed up in the AFL Fall Stars Game. His command isn't spot on, but he's posting a 9.4 K/9 in 17.1 innings of work.
Dorris still hasn't allowed an earned run. He's whiffed 14 batters in seven innings, though he's also walked nine.
