TCB Astros Blue Stars of the Week: Aug 27 - Sept 2

The week begins with Conger starting a double play, and ends with him completing one.

Even though their record was only 2-4 this past week, the Astros defense kept them in some games where the score could have been much worse.  Catch up on these web gems that include a catcher making an incredible play, an outfielder throwing a strike home, and a pitcher with a kick save that would make Patrick Roy proud.

Conger Barehands Pop-Up And Starts Double Play – v. MIN 8/28/2015

With a man on first and no outs, Twins rookie Byron Buxton attempted to bunt him over to second.  He popped up the bunt.  Hank Conger showed off his cat-like reflexes by jumping out of his crouch, barehanding the ball in the air, and doubling up the runner at first base.  Easily one of the most awesome plays I have seen from a catcher.

Qualls Kick-Saves Grounder Right To Marwin – v. MIN 8/30/2015

It was obviously just a reaction play by Chad Qualls, but at full speed it looks like he knew exactly what he was doing.  His kick directed the ball right at Marwin Gonzalez for the easy out.

Rasmus Saves A Run With Diving Catch – v. MIN 8/30/2015

With George Springer being out and Jake Marisnick not playing as much, I have missed seeing outfielders going all out to dive for balls.  This was a welcome site, and kept the Twins from extending their early lead.

Gonzalez Turns An Unassisted Double Play – v. SEA 9/1/2015

Gonzalez was playing even with the bag holding the runner on when he snagged a line drive and tagged the base to turn the inning from one on and no outs to nobody on and two outs.  That’s a two-player swing, Pepper.

Correa Makes A Diving Stop On Liner – v. SEA 9/1/2015

Here is your weekly Carlos Correa highlight.  There weren’t many as he was held out of the Twins series, but he made up for that with this nice diving stab to steal a leadoff single from Cano.

Welcome back to the big leagues, Max Stassi!  He completes the strike-‘em-out throw-‘em’out double play to end the seventh inning.

Rasmus Nails Runner At Home For Inning Ending Double Play – v. SEA 9/2/2015

For the second week in a row, catcher Hank Conger teamed up with an outfielder to cut down a run at the plate to end the inning.  This week it was a perfect throw from right fielder Colby Rasmus to keep the game tied and end the seventh inning.
