Astros Prospect Report: Fresno Wins Triple-A Championship

The minor league season ends on a very high note.

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Whats the smallest game sample size in baseball? A single game sample. But, hey that's how the Triple-A Championship works. Pacific Coast League Champion versus the International League Champion.

That's were Fresno faced off against Columbus for the Triple-A Championship in El Paso, TX (of all places).

Fresno got out to ane early lead with a three-run first but didn't stop there as they picked up another two in the second inning and another run in the third. The hot hitting chased Columbus' starter Ryan Merritt out of the game quickly after two innings. In fact, Columbus used seven different pitchers. All of the damage was done without the assistance of home runs.

Chris Devenski was called up to Fresno for part of the playoffs. He pitched an inning and a third in the Round Rock series but this was his first start at Thriple-A. He came out and shoved by striking out nine and being just one walk from a perfect seven innings. All the props for facing just one over the minimum in your first Triple-A start at the highest level game for the level.
