Fontana Leads Fresno in 5-4 Win; Up 2-0 in Series

Who would have thought that Nolan Fontana would be the big stick in a playoff win? Yeah, not me. But, his two-run homer in the fourth inning put the Grizzlies up 4-2 and to break the 2-2 tie. El Paso attempted to come back but was never able to tie the game. The bullpen gave up two runs to allow El Paso to get within one run but James Hoyt dropped the hammer with 1 1/3 innings of no hits or walks and three strikeouts.

Bullpen Implodes in Ninth for 9-3 Loss

Colin Moran hit a home run to help the Hooks keep this game within reach. However, Jandel Gustave imploded in the ninth. He completed the 8th inning but with the game tied in the ninth, he allowed two runs and left with the bases loaded. Albert Minnis came in to relieve him and allowed all three runners to score along with two additional runners of his own. Conrad Gregor attempted to make a comeback with a single shot home run but he was the only one to make a dent.

The series is now tied 1-1.

Davis Hits 2nd Playoff HR but Falls 6-5

J.D. Davis homered on back to back nights but his solo shot in this game didn't carry enough weight to keep the JetHawks afloat. The pitching staff just gave High Desert too many opportunities. They allowed seventeen hits but were able to limit the damage to just six runs. Not bad in perspective, but the six runs in the grand scheme of one game is bad. This game ties the series 1-1.

QC Season Ends in Extra Innings

Quad Cities won 88 games this season to lead the MWL in wins but were swept in the first round of the playoffs. They lasted until the 11th inning in a 1-1 tie. Brock Dykxhoorn pitched a great game with a 68 Game Score. He allowed just one run (unearned) and allowed just six base runners. However, Angel Heredia  pitched three innings but allowed two runs in the top of the 11th. QC was unable to rebound with a three and out.

TC Unable to Recover From Poor Start; Eliminated From Playoffs

Ralph Garza started the game and put TC in a hole with the season on the line. In an elimination game you want a strong start. But, he allowed four runs in the first and an additional three in the third (one as an inherited runner to Kevin McCanna). The five runs that TC was able to accumulate was not enough to overcome those seven, much less the ten total they gave up.
