The monthly awards keep rolling in for the Astros -- Dallas Keuchel was named Pitcher of the Month in April and May, and Carlos Correa won AL Rookie of the Month award in June. Now, new Astros Scott Kazmir has been named American League Pitcher of the month of July.
The Astros traded for Kazmir on July 23 from the Athletics. He had a 2-0 record with a 0.26 ERA (1ER/34 IP) in five starts -- two of which came with the Astros. Even more baffling, he allowed just 22 baserunners and only three extra-base hits in 34 innings pitched -- opponents batted just .134 (15x112) during that stretch.
This is the second time Kazmir has won the award, he previously won the award in May 2008.
Prior to this year, the 1979 season was the only other year when the Astros took home multiple pitcher of the month awards, as Ken Forsch (April), Joe Niekro (May), Joaquin Andujar (June) and J.R. Richard (September) all received National League Pitcher of the Month honors.
