Pitching Matchup:

RHP Mike Fiers (5-9, 4.03 ERA, 1.36 WHIP) vs. LHP Matt Boyd (1-3, 7.11 ERA, 1.74 WHIP)

Preview:

The Astros lost a tough extra-innings game last night, but they still possess one of the best home records in baseball. They look to continue that amazing success at home today and take the rubber game of this three game series with the Tigers.

The Astros send Mike Fiers to the mound for his second start for the Astros since he was acquired at the trade deadline. He impressed in his first start, allowing only one run over 6 2/3 innings last week against Oakland. It's the Minute Maid Park debut for Fiers.

Lefthander Matt Boyd gets the start for the Tigers, his third since the club acquired him at the trade deadline in the deal for David Price. He's had two solid starts for Detroit since the trade. His ERA was inflated by a start versus Boston in July when he didn't record an out in the first inning.

Despite last night's loss, the Astros kept their 2.5 game lead in the AL West over the Angels, who lost to the Royals. The Astros hope to continue to enjoy home cooking in the afternoon start, and take the series versus the Tigers.
