Introducing Pollo Rojo!

Thomas B. Shea-USA TODAY Sports

Bullpen Holds 8-6 Win Together for Fresno

Obiehockey had a rough night and allowed ten of Albuquerque's thirteen hits. But the bullpen was able to take his five runs and hold it there until the ninth inning where James Hoyt would give up just one run. Despite Obie's rough day, it was still better than his opponent, Boone Whitling, who gave up all eight of Fresno's runs. Battle of the bad Game Score's: Obie-34. Whitling-23

Heras' Solo Shot Only Highlight of CC's 8-1 Loss

Talk about bad outings. Brian Holmes also gave up all eight runs and did it in a third of an inning less than Whitling. Game Score=11. Holmes has had a rough month as his ERA has climbed to 2.50 on July 2nd to 5.22 after this outing.

Lancaster Shoutout 3-0

More of these games that were less than exciting. J.D. Davis struck out four times. Not a good day. That will be the big hang up with him. He can play third reasonably well. Not a stand out. Power and arm strength are definitely there. It all comes down to whether or not he'll hit enough.

Quad Cities Fall 7-1

Elieser Hernandez had arguably his worst outing this season. He doubled his walk total in QC, strikeout just one, and gave up four runs. Not a good day. He had given up just three walks in 23 1/3 innings in Low-A prior to this game, but added another three. Although, with just one strikeout, he still has a K/9 right at nine per nine.

GCL Wins 3-1

Finally another win from the minors. Wander Franco picked up three hits which raised his batting average fifteen points (proof that 150 plate appearances is still a small sample). Frankeny Fernandez hit his first home run this season and second of his career.

DSL Orange Loses 5-4

DSL stats are most insignificant. The quality of play is widely inconsistent and it's relatively small sample sizes. But, there are some things to look at to give you ideas on players to put on watch lists. It's usually counting stats that kind of stick out like a 17-18 year old hitting five plus home runs (Teoscar Hernandez hit seven in the DSL). A great BB/SO ratio. And even though batting averages need a lot of at-bats to stabilize (as I just mentioned above for Franco), a 17 year old hitting .341 in 140 plate apeparances is enough to take notice. That's Carlos Machado and he has a 8% walk rate and 10% strikeout rate. Problem is he doesn't hit for any power, just one double and one triple. He stands 6'2" so there could be a lot more to come, after all he's 17.
