Grizzlies maul Tacoma, 8-2
Brady Rodgers went 7 innings and scattered 8 hits. He, of course, walked nobody and struck out 3 in a very good start. He got 13 of his outs on the ground. Tony Kemp, Robbie Grossman, Matt Duffy, and Tyler White each had 2 hits a piece. Tyler White has went nuts in his 5 games after his promotion. He’s piled up 11 hits in 5 games (4 doubles). He’s also struck out twice and walked twice. Tyler is 24 and in AAA after being drafted in the 33rd round 2 years ago. He’s put up a .303/.413/.475 slash in 241 minor league games. He’s an interesting bat to follow that I am cautiously optimistic about.

Lancaster puts up a big 8th inning to beat Lake Elsinore, 7-3
Remember when AJ Reed started this year really slow and had a .772 OPS in April? Yea, me neither. AJ has done nothing but absolutely rake since then. He had 3 hits including a homer with a walk. He will probably not make many prospect lists before he’s called up, but he’s flashing the type of impact bat that can hit in the middle of the lineup in a couple of years. His 176 wRC+ is miles above anyone in the Cal League that is considered a prospect. He’s also dropped his K rate to below 20%. Lancaster improves their record to 44-37.

Tri-City gets to .500 with win versus the Lowell Spinners, 7-4
Drew Ferguson, 2015 19th rounder out of Belmont, has made the most of his short career so far as a ValleyCat. 8 of his 13 hits so far have gone for extra bases. He’s also walked 6 times and struck out 3 times. Dean Deetz got 3 outs via the strikeout and 6 outs via the ground ball. He did walk 4, but only allowed 1 hit. Tri-City improves their record to 9-9.

Greeneville Astros fall to Kingsport, 5-4
Connor Goedert continued his raking with a 2 RBI double. Yhoan Acosta pitched well in his start. Osvaldo Duarte has been setting the table well as the leadoff man. He’s a 19 year old who spent last year in the DSL and GCL. He’s a bit of a free swinger, but he does walk and hit with some pop. He’s also stolen 4 bags in 13 games all while playing short stop. He’s one to keep an eye on. Greeneville falls to 7-6.

GCL Astros beat GCL Braves, 6-4
Daz Cameron made his debut with a bang. In his very first plate appearance he singled through the right side (opposite field), then stole 2nd base a couple of batters later. He was able single again later on a line drive to left field. Here’s to many more multi-hit plus a stolen base nights for Daz to come.
