Astros Prospect Report: Games of July 27, 2015

Tony Kemp gets it going again. AJ Reed and Brett Phillips do their normal things. I get punny in Greeneville.

Fresno edged by Tacoma, 11-10

Fresno's 7-run seventh inning was not enough as Jason Stoffel blew the 1-run lead in the eighth. Domingo Santana had three hits and a homer. Tony Kemp had three hits including a triple. Kemp had been scuffling of late, he needed a game like this. Andrew Aplin was 4-4 in the nine hole.

Brady Rodgers was roughed up pretty badly in his two innings he pitched. The Grizzlies fall to 58-45.

Corpus Christi loses handily to San Antonio, 13-7

Brett Phillips had two hits including a double. AJ Reed homered. Jed Lowrie was 1-3 in his rehab start. Brian Holmes followed Rodgers lead above and was roughed up for seven earned in 3.1 innings pitched. Most of those runs allowed came via two homeruns that Holmes yielded. Aaron West and Reymin Guduan couldn't stop the bleeding and the game was out of hand pretty quickly.

AJ Reed didn't take long to get his OPS in double A back up over a thousand. His slash in 14 games is sitting at .314/.422/.647. His K rate is up to 27%; however, his walk rate has increased to 18.6% also. His K rate started high in Lancaster and trickled down throughout the season. I predict it will do the same in Corpus. Corpus record falls to 64-37.

Lancaster scores early and outlast Rancho Cucamonga, 6-5

JD Davis put up five RBIs on a two hit night which included a double and a homer. James Ramsay and Jamie Ritchie. Don't look now but James Ramsay has gotten his slash to a respectable spot, .300/.360/.438, after an abysmal start to the season. Akeem Bostick went five innings, but was prone to giving up the hit. The JetHawks improve to 52-48.

Greeneville splits a double header with Kingsport

In eighteen games, Ford Stainback has made the Appy league feel the grapes of his wrath. He hasn't hit for much power, but he has been a man among mice when it come to plate discipline with his twelve walks to seven strikeouts. If he continues this pace, he'll wind up (south)east of Eden, Minnesota, at Quad Cities. The G-Stros record is now 18-15.

GCL Astros blank GCL Yankees2, 4-0

Kyle Tucker's two-hit game led the way for the Gulf Coast kids to find victory. Daz Cameron was 0-2 but did have two steals to push his total to eleven on the season. Miguelangel Sierra made his GCL debut and went 1-2. He was the young prospect shortstop that was featured in Jose Altuve's documentary on Root Sports. GCL improves their record to 10-20.
