Appel Shows Improvement in 8-7 Loss
Believe it or not, he posted a 61 Game Score which is quite good. It took him 102 pitches to make it through his six innings of work which probably has a lot to do with his the three walks. But, he only allowed four hits and struck out four. Three of his four strike outs were swinging so his stuff played well.

Hooks Win 7-6 in the 10th
Jio Mier is still sticking around. His OPS sits at .734 which is tied for third highest career. His highest is of course the .834 he posted in Greeneville back in 2009 followed but his injury shortened time in Lancaster where he hit .805 back in 2012. I am by no means saying to get on the train because he's 24 and playing in AA. But, I like to at least see him play well.

JetHawks Quieted by Former Teammate Mengden
That's rough. Just days after being traded you take the mound for a new organization for the first time and it's against your old organization. I guess that's his way of saying "shouldn't have traded me." I'm not saying that, because I liked the trade. But, you have to imagine that a traded player would have that kind of chip on their shoulder.
But, J.D. Davis didn't let that happen as he took Mengden deep for Mengden's only run.

Tanielu Homers in 4-3 Loss
All he does is hit. Remember this is the 14th rounder from last season that signed for 200k. His numbers are almost identical to last season's in TC. His walk rate is the same but he has dropped his strikeout rate from 19% last year to 13% this year. The power is approximately the same.

Winkelman Stops the Bleeding in 5-4 Win
Alex Winkelman is mowing through hitters in the pros. He has a 29/6 SO/BB ratio in his twenty-one innings of work across two levels. That ratio is 15/1 in his 10 2/3 for Tri-City. This is the same guy that had a 92/51 ratio in his 98 innings in college. A manager in the Northwoods League last summer said he had "good control," well he didn't show it in college this year but is right now.
