Lowrie injured himself sliding into home against the Padres, he was later diagnosed with a torn ligament in his thumb that required surgery.
Before the injury, Lowire was batting .300 with four home runs, 11 runs scored, 10 RBIs, and a 173 wRC+ -- also 1.0 FanGraphs WAR.
Hinch noted that Lowrie will play mostly third base. The Astros currently have shortstop locked down with potential Rookie of the Year candidate Carlos Correa. Lowrie has already played 83 games (52 starts) at third base in his career. He hasn't played third base since 2011 with the Red Sox.
