Astros Prospect Report: Games of July 13, 2015

AJ Reed and Jacob Nottingham continue to make their case to the national prospect people.

Fresno Grizzles: OFF

New look Corpus Christi lineup puts up 9 runs to beat Springfield

If there's a club that has had some tumultuous turnover this year, it's the Hooks. They've seen their 2 most productive players become one of the best 20 year olds in history in the MLB and the other was sent to AAA and just played in the Futures game (Carlos Correa and Tony Kemp). Thanks to some recent promotions this lineup is back to looking very stout. AJ Reed continued his hot hitting with a 2 hit night. Recently promoted catcher, Alfredo Gonzalez had a 3-hit night in the 9 hole. This guy's career is a bit perplexing. He toiled away for years in the rookie leagues and actually didn't register any statistics in 2010. This season he started with Quad Cities, moved to Lancaster, and now he's here in Corpus. At every stop this year, he's put up an OPS in the .800s, but his career minor league OPS is .666. I am not sure if this is a late bloomer who is a prospect or if he's just org depth. You can never have too much catching depth, that's for sure. Hooks record improves to 58-30.

Lancaster also spots 9 runs in victory over High Desert

Derek Fisher homered and the 3-6 hitters each had 2 hits. Jacob Nottingham was batting in the 6 hole. In 12 games, the sheriff is slashing .373/.418/.706 in 12 games at Lancaster. He's also caught in all 12 games that he's played. This is good to see and signifies that he is a catcher and will probably stick. If that's the case, this is a guy that will go from relatively unknown in the national prospect community to a top 50 or even top 20 guy with the way he is mashing. JetHawks record improves to 47-39.

Quad Cities falls to Burlington, 2-3

David Paulino was cruising until the 5th inning. Burlington was able to put up a 3-spot and that was too much for the RiverBandits to overcome. Jason Martin had a 3-hit day. He's now slashing .296/.365/.438 as a 19 year old in the MWL. That's not bad at all when you think about his potential to be an elite defensive centerfielder. QC falls to 56-31.
