The Astros sent two prospects to Sunday's Futures Game, with Tony Kemp joining Mark Appel on the US roster. Kemp went 0-1 with two walks, and also scored a run. Kemp wore a microphone during the game, which led to some amusing moments.
He won't be taking J.J. Watt's crown as the best Mic'd Up Houston athlete, but he did have some funny commentary. I especially liked when he hit a fly ball to left after two walks and said "that's why I don't swing". He's obviously got the Moneyball philosophy down, let's get him up to the Astros.
Other highlights:
- Debating the finer points of a dugout wager with his teammates.
- Some nice praise for the ballpark in Fresno and the Grizzlies manager Tony DeFrancesco.
- Watching the prospects scatter as a foul ball came into the dugout. Guys, you have gloves, you're supposed to catch those!
