The Astros have already selected two players from the Big 12, TCU pitcher Riley Ferrell and Oklahoma catcher Anthony Hermelyn. Now they add a third member of the Big 12 family, Oklahoma State left-handed pitcher Michael Freeman.
Freeman is a native of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and attended Bishop Kelley high school.
During his sophomore season with the Cowboys, he appeared in 10 games. The Oklahoma State athletics website also notes:
"[Freeman] struck out two in the ninth inning of a win over Alcorn State February 19, 2014; following the game, he proposed and got engaged to his girlfriend on the field."
In 2015, Freeman posted a 10-3 record in 15 starts with a 1.31 ERA in 109 2/3 innings pitched - striking out 97 and walking 29. Freeman was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week four times during 2015.
Freeman was the first Cowboy selected in the 2015, Koda Glover (254, Nationals) later joined him.
