2015 MLB Draft: Houston Astros select Anthony Hermelyn in the 4th round

The Astros stay in the Big 12 after selecting a Horned Frog in the third round.

With one Big 12 pitcher in the fold, the Astros added a Big 12 batterymate. The Astros selected Anthony Hermelyn, catcher out of the University of Oklahoma.

Hermelyn is a native of McKinney, TX, and attended McKinney High School. The current junior made the NCAA playoffs in 2013. In 2014, he batted .289 (61x221) with 10 extra base hits, 24 runs scored, 28 RBI, and .339 on-base percentage. Hermelyn hit .308 in the Cape Cod League with 117 at-bats and was selected for the 2014 Cape Cod All Star game.

In 2015, Hermelyn started all 61 games this season for the Sooners and was named a team captain. Hermelyn batted .321 (78x243) this with 19 extra-base hits, 27 runs scored, .360 on-base percentage, and led the Big 12 in RBIs with 49.

Minor League Ball ranked Hermelyn as the 230th prospect coming into the 2015 season.

Hermelyn was the first player selected out of Oklahoma in 2015.
