Astros officially sign Daz Cameron, 37th overall pick

The Astros and Astros Director of Amateur Scouting Mike Elias have announced the official signing of their third pick in the 2015 MLB Draft, Daz Cameron. Cameron was selected with the 37th overall pick in the Competitive Balance Round A in the 2015 MLB First Year Player Draft.

Cameron, 18, hit .455 (35x77) with 10 doubles, eight home runs, 17 stolen bases and 32 RBI during his senior year at Eagle's Landing Christian Academy High School in Atlanta, Ga.

"Daz Cameron is a potential five-tool outfielder who has a long track record of performance across several years with USA Baseball, his high school program and at summer scouting events," said Elias.

The right-handed hitting outfielder was Georgia's 2015 Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year and led his high school baseball team to the state playoffs in all four of his varsity seasons. Daz is the son of Mike Cameron, who played center field in the Majors for 17 years, a career in which he played for eight teams.

"He's an advanced defender in center field, has a very good swing and has shown our scouts an impressive combination of hitting ability, game power and speed. He plays hard and has an excellent work ethic, and we are thrilled to add a player of his caliber to our organization today."

Additionally, the Astros signed their 30th round pick, third baseman Bobby Wernes, and non-drafted free agent right-handed pitcher Andrew Thome (University of North Dakota).

The Astros have now signed 32 of their 42 selections from the 2015 MLB Draft.
