Welcome to Triple-A, Mark Appel! Or, more like, welcome to Reno, a place sure to remind you of Lancaster! Although Appel really pitched badly, there's always a bright side: his GB/FB ratio was 4/2. Also, Jose Veras was ejected from this game before it even started. Does anyone know why?

Outside of a Presley solo shot in the first, the offense was, again, nonexistent. The team had more GIDPs than XBHs.

Dan Straily pitched very well: six innings of five-hit ball with only an RBI double and solo shot allowed to go with no walks, 7 Ks, and a 6/1 GB/FB ratio. In his last 8 games, in 48.1 innings, Straily has struck out 52 and only allowed 6 walks. Possible Obie replacement?

Another 2-1 game? It's a good thing I looked at the other scores; otherwise I'd be worried there was something wrong with our farm system as a whole. Adrian Houser pitched very well, allowing two runs and striking out 4 in 5 innings, and then Chris Devenski went to work and allowed 1 hit qhile striking out 6 and allowing just one flyout. Outside of one big blowup against San Antonio that shot his ERA above 1 (4 runs in 6 innings), Devenski hasn't allowed more than one run in a game this whole season. That's crazy good.

Yay! Offense! Granted, it was against a now 26-47 Bakersfied, but that doesn't matter. Brian Radziewski helped the offense out by only allowing two runs over seven innings and inducing 13 GB outs.

Chase McDonald, he of the solo homer, is on FIRE as of late. In his last 8 games, he's hit .452 with 5 walks and 8 strikeouts and has reached base in every one of those games. Plus, his OPS is .910 right now, so he's hitting quite well. For someone with a career 2.6 K/BB rate, this SSS of patience is good to see.

What a wild one in Cedar Rapids. In the top of the 9th, the River Bandits tied it up at 4, and then scored 2 (one on an Alex Bregman RBI double!) in the 10th to win it. Brock Dykxhoorn allowed some runs but had a 10/1 GB/FB ratio, as he usually does, and the rest of the 'pen was solid.

Jason Martin hit a solo shot, and 19-year-old has been lighting it up lately. In his past 7 games, he's hitting for a Williams-esque .406 and had 2 homers, surprising for someone with his frame. Something that bothers me: He is definitely very fast, but he's been caught stealing (5 times) almost as many times as he's stolen a base (6 times).

Adam Whitt (W, 1-0) 2.1 0 0 0 0 4 0 0.00

If you thought QC's comeback was something special, how about this one? Four runs in the bottom of the 9th for TC, then another in the bottom of the 10th (a Cesar Carrasco groundout walked it off). The pitching didn't start off that well (Harold Arauz and Austin Nicely got hit hard, although all their outs besides their Ks were on the ground) but Joselo Pinales and Adam Whitt shut it down at the end.

Johnny Sewald is off to an interesting start: he has hit 10 singles, walked and struck out five times, and stolen four bases. No XBHs whatsoever. He is only 160 pounds, so maybe hitting the weight room is in store for him, as he definitely needs it.
