Pitching matchup

RHP Vincent Velasquez (0-0, 4.15 ERA, 1.69 WHIP) vs. RHP Nathan Eovaldi (6-2, 4.95 ERA, 1.57 WHIP)

Preview

The Astros got just what they needed from Dallas Keuchel on Thursday, a complete game shutout against the Yankees. Now the Astros turn to the young Vincent Velasquez in game two.

Velazquez has made three starts thus far in his young career, he has shown all the tools that made him a top prospect in the Astros system. The one main hindrance for Velasquez thus has been his high pitch count, he has been around 90 pitches in each start without getting out getting past the fifth inning.

Teams seem to be able to fight off Velazquez pitches but can't square him up. He'll need to improve if he hopes to say in the rotation for the foreseeable future.

On the mound for the Yankees is Houston-native, Nathan Eovaldi. Eovaldi has been on roller coast his last two starts. Allowing eight runs over 2/3 of an inning against the Marlins and holding the Tigers to two runs over six innings in his most recent start.
