Preview
The Halos threw a curveball to the Astros today on getaway day. The Angels called up their top prospect left-handed pitcher Andrew Heaney. The Oklahoma State product was traded from the Marlins to the Angels as part of the three way deal between the Angels, Marlins, and Dodgers.
Heaney was the ninth overall pick in the 2012 draft. He made his major league debut for the Marlins last season, posting a 0-3 record with a 5.83 ERA in seven appearances. Heaney is 6-2 with a 4.71 ERA in 14 starts with the Angels Triple-A affiliate Sacremento Bees. In June, he is 1-1 with a 6.85 ERA in four starts.
The struggling Matt Shoemaker will get two extra days of rest after being pushed back in the rotation by Heaney.
Countering Heaney is one of the Astros top prospects, Lance McCullers. Lance McCullers has struck out 46 batters in just 40 1/3 innings, but he has pitched just 9 1/3 innings over his last two starts.
George Springer was already told he would get the day off before the Angels switched to a left-handed starter.
