Fresno Grizzlies at the hated Sacramento Rivercats (SF)

Don't believe me that they are hated?

The Fresno and Sacramento twitters had a fun little exchange also.

Go follow the Fresno Twitter account if you haven't yet. The person running that does a fantastic job.

Tony Kemp seems to be having trouble adjusting to AAA. NOT!. He has come out of the gate putting up numbers that are nearly identical to his AA numbers. He also stole 3 bags last night. You have to wonder when/if/how he makes it to Houston this season.

Dan Straily had a nice bounce back start after allowing 5 earned in his previous 2. Straily is really piling up the Ks lately. Hopefully, more consistent results will follow.

Matt Cain was making a rehab start for Sacramento. The Grizzlies handed him an L.

Grizzlies win 6-3. Their record improves to 39-25.

Corpus Christi Hooks at the San Antonio Missions (SD)

The Hooks played a double header. The Hook won a double header. This team has lost a fair amount of production from promotions (Carlos Correa, Tyler Heineman, Tony Kemp, etc.), but they just keep on keeping on. They are absolutely dominating their competition in the Texas League.

Mark Appel threw in game 2. He was pulled in the 7th inning at 101 pitches (69 strikes). This game was not domination, but it wasn't a bad start either. I know everyone wants to gnash their teeth over Appel not dominating, but it's a waste of time. He is what he is. A middling AA, age appropriate pitcher with plus potential. Him working out as a starter will not make or break the Astros. I coach high school football, and on our depth chart, we have a "bonus" column that is not any position. The kids that are in the "bonus" columns are kids that we don't want to plug into the depth chart because we can't trust something about them. Appel has gone into the Astros prospect version of the "bonus" column in my head. If he pans out, great. If he doesn't, oh well. This system is stacked to the max, and one prospect does not make a system.

With these 2 wins, the Hooks pushed their run differential to a silly +135. Yeah... That orange line way up there on its own. That's the Hooks.

hooks run differenial

Hooks win 5-3 and 15-3. Their record improves to 43-19.

Great Lakes Loons (LAD) vs the Quad Cities RiverBandits

Akeem Bostick pitched a heck of a game that will go down as a tie when it is all said and done.

If you don't remember, Bostick is the 19 year old pitcher that was acquired for Carlos Corporan from the Rangers. He's barely 20 years old and is already showing promise in A ball. Bostick, coming into this start, has thrown 31.0 innings with a 20% K rate, 1.8% BB rate, and a 50.6% ground ball rate.

The Sheriff, Jacob Nottingham, homered again in the shortened affair and brought his OPS to a cool .965. This guy just continues to rake. With him being a catcher, he is going to start sliding up prospect lists like crazy.

Quad Cities TIES 3-3. Their record goes to 41-21-1. Weird.
