The Astros have a logjam in minor leagues and on the 40-man roster. Houston needed a replacement for George Springer, who was recently placed on the 7-day concussion disabled list. They decided to call up the red hot Preston Tucker, the only problem is Tucker wasn't on the 40-man roster.
Instead of placing Jed Lowrie on the 60-day disabled list, the Astros have designated utility man Ronald Torreyes.
The Astros have selected OF Preston Tucker to the Major League roster from Triple A and have designated IF Ronald Torreyes for assignment.

Torreyes was originally added to protect him from the Rule-5 draft after batting .298 with 27 extra-base hits and 46 RBI in 2014 with Triple A Oklahoma City. The jack of all trades played second, shortstop, third base, left field, and center field for the Red Hawks last season.
But in 2015, Torreyes has struggled. He is batting .200 with one extra-base hit in 72 at-bats this season in Triple A Fresno.
