Everything has been clicking for the Astros to start the month of April. Houston is off to their best start in franchise history through 25 games, 18-7. Of the many key contributors to that record, none has been bigger than pitcher Dallas Keuchel. Major League Baseball announced that Keuchel is the American League Pitcher of the Month for April.
Keuchel went 3-0 in his five April starts, posting a 0.73 ERA in 37 innings pitched with 22 strikeouts. The left-hander allowed only 27 batters to reach base (16 hits, 11 walks). Keuchel leads the league in innings pitched (37.0), opponents' batting average (.130), and groundball to flyball ratio (3.61) during the month. He finished second in ERA and tied for third in wins.
The lefty is the first Astro to win a Pitcher of the Month award since Wandy Rodriguez (ironically, the Astros are facing Rodriguez this week) was named the N.L. Pitcher of the Month in July of 2009.
