Astros Prospect Report: Games of May 30, 2015

Derek Fisher tears the covers off of quite a few baseballs, Quad Cities' pitchers combined for a shutout, and more news from down on the farm.

Have yourself a day, Dan Straily. The righty is finally heating up. In his last three starts, he's walked 2 and struck out 23 over 19 innings, and his ERA has gone down 1.31 points. Fauxsto may soon be out of a spot in the rotation if Straily has truly turned around. HIs BABIP is still .362, and his FIP is .31 runs under his current ERA, so this improvement seems real enough.

Bob Grossman is not having such a great time at AAA. He's struck out more than three times the amount he's walked, his OPS is .579, and his WRC+ is 53. His BABIP is only .239, so he isn't a lost cause, but it doesn't look like he'll be called up anytime soon, if ever.

This game was pretty boring, especially if you're a CC fan. They were limited to five hits and didn't score until the eighth inning. None of the pitchers performed badly, but they each allowed a run in four successive innings to seal their fate.

Someone who's not doing well at all this year is Teoscar Hernandez. He's already K'd fifty times in 42 games. He's still racking up homers (6) so he's still making some noise, but his ISO is only .145. HIs BABIP, which is way down for a speedy guy (10 steals this year), is only .240, but it's not like he'll match the .418 he had last year. What do you think, Astros fans: swap him with Brett Phillips?

Ho, hum. Just your average debut for Derek Fisher. Two grand  slams as well as bases-loaded triple (it was called a double, but was really a triple). Broke the RBI record in the California League as well. I think we've got ourselves a pretty good prospect.

That Lancaster effect is scary. Adrian Houser has definitely been a victim of it. This outing lowered his ERA to a still-high 4.93, but his peripherals don't look all that bad. He's K'd 10.9 per 9, and while walks are an issue (BB/9) this is the first year he's suffered in this category outside of Rookie ball, so maybe it's a temporary lapse in control or a new pitch. Anyway, his BABIP is .360, and his FIP is 4.23, so don't look at the ERA. Just looks at all the #whiffs.

What a great game pitched by the River Bandits. Kevin Comer allowed 4 hits and a walk through 5 shutout innings and also struck out five. Not to be outdone, Fancis Martes didn't allow a baserunner in his 4 innings and struck out 2. With a Bobby Boyd RBI single in the 6th, the River Bandits won a pretty great pitcher's duel, seeing as how the Bees's two pitchers (Justin Anderson and Jake Jewell) K'd 14 and only allowed seven baserunners. Comer and Anderson even combined to give up only groundball outs (8 for Comer, 7 for Anderson). That QC even scored was a pretty great achievement.

Remember last year when we drafted something like 3 guys out of Northeastern Oklahoma A&M? Well, it looks like we finally had one reach full-season ball. Ramon Laureano has no hits in seven at-bats (he does have a walk) but is actually only 20 years old. Good on Luhnow for jumping on the chance to draft a 19-year-old college player.
