Astros Minor League Open Thread: Memorial Day

After the Astros are done, four teams will play five games on Memorial Day evening.

The Astros game is early but the minor leagues are playing late. Here's an opportunity for those of you/us that don't have plans this evening to discuss the games and whatever else floats your boat. The draft is right around the corner and NCAA tournament was just announced.

Memphis Redbirds at Fresno Grizzlies

9:05 PM CST

An old rivalry is renewed at the minor league level as the Cardinals AAA team faces off against the Astros AAA team. The Redbirds will send 27 year old pitcher Nick Greenwood to the mound and the Grizzlies have yet to announce their starter. First-baseman Jon Singleton hit his 14th home run and continues to look like he may be pushing his way back to the majors.

Midland Rockhounds at Corpus Christi Hooks

2:05 PM CST

Mike Hauschild has been a solid pitcher in the minors and has found ways to improve. This season he's repeated AA and has improved his walk and strikeout rates which has aided his success. He'll face off against Jake Sanchez who is not one of the A's top prospects and has not experienced much success. The Hooks potent offense could have a fun Memorial Day.

Inland Empire 66ers at Lancaster JetHawks

Lancaster sits at 22-22 and will be looking to get back over .500 and into a tie for third place in the division with Inland Empire whom is just one game ahead of them in the standings. They'll likely get a good opportunity to do so with solid pitching as Joe Musgrove will take the mound for the fourth time since getting promoted. He has pitched very well in every appearance and will likely continue to do so. He'll be facing Victor Alcantara.

Peoria Chiefs at Quad Cities River Bandits

4:00 PM CST

Yesterday's game was rained out so weather permitting there will be a double header. Kevin Comer will face off against 2014 4th-round pick Austin Gomber who has been very effective with good control and ability strike hitters out. Comer has been used a short relief arm in a few recent outings and but was put pack in the rotation in his last outing.

Game two will start shortly after game one and will feature the electric arm of Frances Martes. This will be his second appearance in full-season ball and in the Astros system. He'll face off against Daniel Poncedeleon.
