Nashville Sounds (OAK) at the Fresno Grizzlies
Robbie Grossman got to play the hero last night as he plated 2 in the bottom of the 11th to win the game after the Sounds had taken the lead in the top of 11th. Carolos Correa was 1 for 4 with 2 Ks and a BB.
Jon Singleton had an 0-5 night, but he only struck out once. As you can see from the numbers below. Jon has seen marked improvement in his contact rates in May. He is seeing less pitches per plate appearance and his swing percnetage is up which suggest to me that he has possibly shifted his approach to be more aggressive. Keep it up Jon. Tommy Shirley continues to knock on the door as he struck out 7 through 6 innings pitched. I am not wanting to give up on him as a starter, but he could be a stud LHP out of the pen if it allows his stuff to play up.
Fresno wins 3-2. Their record is 24-18.

Midland RockHounds at the Corpus Christi Hooks
Pace of play was not a problem in this one as game time only ran for 2 hours and 26 minutes. Chris Devenski continues to sport a less than 1 ERA and does what he does to get the win tonight. He spread out 8 hits over 7 innings while striking out 3 and walking 1. The only run he allowed came on a solo shot. Devenski definitely pitched his way out of trouble a couple of times in this game. He only took 93 pitches to get through his seven innings.
Teoscar Hernandez had himself a big night at the plate for the Hooks with a double and a homer. He plated 3 base runners and did not strike out. Hopefully this will be the beginning of a big up swing from Teoscar as he appeared to be over matched early in his time at AA. Andrew Aplin also had a 3 hit night with a stolen base.
Hooks win 7-1. They improve their record to 28-13.

Inland Empire 66ers at the Lancaster JetHawks
Lancaster couldn't overcome the 66ers offensive explosion. All of our guys got knocked around with homeruns as the 66ers sent 3 out. They were taking advantage of the 24 mph wind out to CF. Brett Phillips continued to be a stud at the leadoff position with a hit and 2 walks.
Here's a quick reminder of the landscape around Lancaster. You can see why the ball travels so well there. Windy and dry.

Peoria Chiefs (LAA) at the Quad Cities River Bandits
Joshua James and Brock Dykxhoorn were stellar in their tandem start and the River Bandits win again. James is one of the JUCO players selected in the 2014 draft. Dykxhoorn was also selected out of a junior college and was featured in my Forgotten Few: Volume 2. It's good to see both of these guys put together great games after having a couple of rough outings in their last starts.
Jacob Nottingham led the way offensively with 2 hits, both doubles. Everyone else in the lineup had a hit except for Jason Martin who did draw a walk. Fisher stole a base and also had an RBI. Fisher and Nottingham's OPS combined is nearly 1.9.
River Bandits win 2-0. Their record is 33-10. At this rate over a 162 game season, they would win 124.
