Preview
The Astros are in first place in the West and sit a half game behind the Cardinals for the best record in baseball. I would imagine most Astros fans are pinching themselves to make sure the standing are real. Houston's stretch of prosperity will be tested with a spot start from Samuel Deduno. Deduno was beat out in Spring Training for a starting spot by Roberto Hernandez and Asher Wojciechowski. He made the decision tough, allowing just 5 earned runs in 16 innings pitched this spring. Four of the earned runs came in his one only start this spring, four runs on four hits and four walks over two innings.
Deduno slid into the Astros bullpen as the long man, thus far he has pitched five games - allowing 3 earned runs in 9 1/3 innings. In his career as a starter, Deduno has a 16-17 record with a 4.43 ERA in 42 starts.
