The Astros had three players selected in the most recent Rule 5 draft. Outfielder Delino DeShields jr. was selected by the Rangers. Left-handed reliever David Rollins was selected by the Mariners, and fireball righty Jandel Gustave was selected by the Red Sox. Of the three selected, Gustave seemed like the most likely candidate to return to the Astros. On Friday, that happened.
Gustave was traded to the Royals shortly after being selected by the Red Sox. Kansas City put him on waivers on March 24, the Padres put a claim in on him. San Diego wasn't able to find a spot for him on the 25-man roster, and thus returned Gustave to the Astros.
Gustave appeared in 6 games with the Royals this spring, posting a 1-0 record with a 3.24 ERA and 7 strikeouts.
Gustave will start the season with the Astros in Double A Corpus Christi.
