Astros roster news: Samuel Deduno, Jake Buchanan could start Friday

The Astros have two candidates to start Friday's game with Seattle.

With fifth starter Asher Wojciechowski toiling in Triple-A after four lackluster appearances in the Astros uniform, Houston needs someone to start Friday's game against the Seattle Mariners.

Brian McTaggart just dropped a TagsBomb on who that might be.

Deduno has started 42 games in his career, most recently in 2014 for the Astros. He's technically the long reliever and can give Houston a spot start here, which is what that spot should be used for.

However, the interesting note here is that Buchanan will start if Deduno needs to pitch Wednesday in San Diego. That's notable because Buchanan isn't currently on the roster, which suggests there will be more movement before Friday's game.

With the move back to the American League, could L.J. Hoes be demoted in favor of a starting pitcher? Hoes got exactly one at-bat since his recall to the big leagues and he didn't get a hit. With Houston's outfield options, he's a likely candidate to head back down.

At any rate, it means that Brett Oberholtzer won't be coming off the DL by then. How long before he reclaims a rotation spot?
