Kyle Smith has undergone Tommy John Surgery, reported Houston Chronicle' Jose de Jesus Ortiz:

Smith was a forth-round draft selection of the Kansas City Royals in the 2011 draft. He was traded to Houston in 2013 for outfielder Justin Maxwell. The right-hander made the jump from Single A Lancaster to Double Corpus Christi in 2014, after posting 4-0 record with a 2.60 ERA and a WHIP of 1.08. With Corpus Christi, he struggle slightly with a 5-5 recored and 4.35 ERA.
TCB ranked Smith as the 19th highest prospect in the Astros system.
It's tough to argue against his results at AA. I questioned them after last season and he proved me wrong for AA. He a profile that has is very tough to succeed with as he has average velocity and lives on painting the black. His calling card is the curve which is quite good. He'll face doubters every step of the way, but the noise they make is growing quieter. -Subber10
It's unfortunate news as the Astros haven't been plagued by need to put pitchers under the knife like many teams in Major League Baseball.
