Round One, Match Twenty Four

Mark Appel, RHP

I just can’t...well I guess I should. I’m a big Appel fan and anything I say about last season runs the risk of being called an apologist. The time in Lancaster was dreadful. Double-A was better.  AFL was very good and at times called dominant. The stuff is still there to be a top of the rotation type, but he needs to tighten up his command and attack hitters. He seemed too hesitant this year. -- Subber10

VS.

Tony Sipp, LHP

How bad would things have been if not for this man? Sipp was rambling around the PCL with the homeless Chihuahuas when the Astros rescued him and gave him a shot. Sipp more than delivered, striking out 11.2 batters per nine innings and bridging the gap to Chad Qualls in the ninth inning. Sipp is in his final year of arbitration, and could cash in with a multi-year deal after the 2015 season if he performs as well again.  -- Brian Stevenson
