It was an interesting day to say the least with Brady Aiken announcing he had undergone Tommy John surgery. Their of course were many opinion about the events that unfolded about the Astros and Aiken. Here is a sample of what twitter had to offer:
Brady Aiken announcing his own Tommy John surgery, because, hey, why would anything about this whole situation be normal?
— David Cameron (@DCameronFG) March 26, 2015
When you look at recent @MLBDraft history with Giolito, Hoffman, Fedde, seems certain someone will take Aiken in first round in June.
— Jim Callis (@jimcallisMLB) March 26, 2015
If the Astros believed in July that TJ surgery would resolve their concern with Aiken, likely the negotiations could have been made easier.
— Evan Drellich (@EvanDrellich) March 26, 2015
What if Aiken dominates post op? Were Astros wrong? Or did he get incredibly lucky& defy odds? What if surgery fails? Other TJs fail too no?
— Evan Drellich (@EvanDrellich) March 26, 2015
I'm skeptical without docs involved speaking or very candid interviews with those directly involved that we can ever say a lot definitively.
— Evan Drellich (@EvanDrellich) March 26, 2015
Without question this validates Astros concern. No doubt. I just caution against a final judgment bc facts few & far + recovery to be seen.
— Evan Drellich (@EvanDrellich) March 26, 2015
a very thoughtful piece by former No. 1 pick brady aiken, who announces he's had tommy john surgery. http://t.co/T1EL8hC4VS

While @Astros could have handled it better, the conspiracy theorists who thought they tried to swindle Aiken should think again. @MLBDraft
— Jim Callis (@jimcallisMLB) March 26, 2015
Part of issue was how #Astros handled talks - a complaint that resurfaced, in a different a form, with Vogelsong in FA. In end, no one wins.
— Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) March 26, 2015
I think so. "@alarp33: @keithlaw Aiken a 1st round pick post surgery?"
— keithlaw (@keithlaw) March 26, 2015
meanwhile, i hear jacob nix has been lights out lately. it's been a tough episode all-around for both young men, tho.
— Jon Heyman (@JonHeymanCBS) March 26, 2015
My story on Brady Aiken having Tommy John surgery: http://t.co/hxQq9CQR1G. Still think he goes early in 2015 @MLBDraft.
— Jim Callis (@jimcallisMLB) March 26, 2015
Giolito, Hoffman, and Fedde all went first round and got paid. No reason Aiken won't do the same.
— keithlaw (@keithlaw) March 26, 2015
Derek Jeter started Players Tribune. Jeter is a Casey Close client. What Brady Aiken wrote should in essence be taken as a press release.
— Evan Drellich (@EvanDrellich) March 27, 2015
Interesting too that Close had no problem speaking publicly about Aiken and Nix before signing deadline while trashing Astros, but not since
— Evan Drellich (@EvanDrellich) March 27, 2015
The Astros were never said to be manufacturing the elbow concern as fiction. The issue was how much risk the elbow concern actually created
— Evan Drellich (@EvanDrellich) March 27, 2015
The victory lap some Astros fans are taking on this is mind boggling. The issue is so much deeper than "He went for Tommy John, we win."
— Evan Drellich (@EvanDrellich) March 27, 2015
How much does @bradyaiken10's TJ surgery affect his Top 50 @MLBDraft Prospects rank? Not much: http://t.co/ZVfHxVVJkO pic.twitter.com/igcxdjjhMR
— MLB Pipeline (@MLBPipeline) March 27, 2015
@bradyaiken10 wishing you a speedy recovery buddy. If anybody can overcome this its you. pic.twitter.com/j4v253OY2p

LRT: Agree with Evan, who covers #Astros. Remember, team offered Aiken $5M, took that chance. Many ?s remain, including handling of draft.
— Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) March 27, 2015
The @astros are handling this so much better than the passive-aggressive retweeting I'd be doing today. Props for having adults on the keys.
— Zachary Levine (@zacharylevine) March 27, 2015
Safe to say both sides could have handled the Aiken situation better. No winner here, but not like either has to be a loser ... @MLBDraft
— Jim Callis (@jimcallisMLB) March 27, 2015
At same time, @Astros could have taken Rodon (hindsight 20-20) & Aiken will likely sign for less & return to previous form isn't guaranteed.
— Jim Callis (@jimcallisMLB) March 27, 2015
Team didn't handle situation well. @redengler: hard to side w/Aiken for souring given surgery. @Astros had concerns & ultimately were right
— Jim Callis (@jimcallisMLB) March 27, 2015
Succinct & true. @CTSPanton: @ada_dog @astros @MLBDraft Nobody won here. How is that difficult to understand?
— Jim Callis (@jimcallisMLB) March 27, 2015
Don't believe that. @MitchellNJ: In fair world @Astros would have forfeited pick this yr for actions on Aiken. Astros acted in bad faith!
— Jim Callis (@jimcallisMLB) March 27, 2015
Treat him more like a person than just an asset. @RGBIII: how could they have handled better? Reduced offer has to be better then no offer
— Jim Callis (@jimcallisMLB) March 27, 2015
Sure, I did. Would have taken Aiken. Admitted in that tweet that was hindsight. @GutieJoe: Did you have Aiken rated higher than Rodon?
— Jim Callis (@jimcallisMLB) March 27, 2015
I'll antagonize some more. Nix imbroglio didn't make @Astros look good, but 29 other teams would have backed out once Aiken fell through.
— Jim Callis (@jimcallisMLB) March 27, 2015
This can't be restated/retweeted enough. It's a wealth transfer scheme. RT @jimcallisMLB: Draft exists to save teams $ on bonuses, period.
— keithlaw (@keithlaw) March 27, 2015
I'm not one to preach on ethics, but @EvanDrellich should not be covering Brady Aiken, who is obviously his brother. pic.twitter.com/dz950XCszv
