It wasn't all good news on the first day that pitchers and catchers worked out. Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow stated that right-handed pitcher Vincent Velasquez would miss two to three week with a lat injury - as reported by the Houston Chronicle's Evan Drellich and MLB.com's Brian McTaggart.
Velasquez suffered the injury while pitching the Arizona Fall League, and has been cleared to do all physical activity except throwing.
Injuries have hampered the second-round pick of the 2010 draft, he missed two month last season with groin strain. In 2011, he missed the entire season with Tommy John surgery.Last season, Velasquez made 10 starts (15 appearances) with the Astros single-a affiliate Lancaster Jethawks, posting a record of 7-4 with a 3.74 ERA and 1.23 WHIP.
This news comes after Velasquez was talked about as a part of the Evan Gattis trade that sent right-handed Mike Foltynewicz, Andrew Thurman, and third baseman Rio Ruiz to the Braves.
