Seven Astros make FanGraphs Top 200 prospects list

Carlos Correa headlines the Astros contingent on the latest prospect list

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Three days until baseball gets here and we have another top prospect list. FanGraphs released its Top 200 prospectsand seven Astros made the cut. Three made the top 100 and three more fell between 100-126.

The Astros players to make the list were:

5. Carlos Correa
18. Mark Appel
75. Vincent Velasquez
107. Brett Phillips
121. Colin Moran
126. Lance McCullers jr.
Honorable mention: Domingo Santana

After No. 142, FanGraphs listed 58 guys without writeups or rankings and Santana was in that group.

This is the highest ranking this winter for Appel, who FanGraphs still sees as having No. 2 upside. It's low on nearly everyone else, though about in line with the Baseball Prospectus' Top 101 prospect list.

As a companion piece, one of the newest FanGraphs writers uses his KATOH projection system to predict the WAR of prospects through Age 28.

Correa looks best by this method of the Astros contingent, totaling 7.4 fWAR through that age. Mark Appel, on the other hand, is only listed at 1.7 fWAR. Only Miguel Sano has a lower total among the Top 25 players on the list.

On the plus side, Brett Phillips is just behind correa with a little over 5.0 fWAR. So, he's clearly going to be starting by next year.

What do you think? Upset that Captain Correa fell in another ranking? Upset that a pitcher (Julio Urias) was ranked above him? Upset that more Astros didn't make the list?
