The off-season can be quite boring when it comes to minor league baseball. But, we are going to try and get some discussion about minor leaguers going as it pertains to actual baseball (IT'S ALMOST HERE!)
Brooks
This weeks discussion.
With spring training coming up, which minor league invites are you most excited to see play against major league players?
Irish Pete
Mark Appel. 2014 was an early disaster, but he's done nothing but pick up steam going into 2015. His AA experience was a nice rebound and he put up solid numbers in the Arizona Fall League.
If he shows well in Spring Training, he will create a lot of buzz about him possibly making his debut for the Astros this year.
Ashitaka
Correa, of course. Not just because I like him and he's the future, but because I want confirmation that he's completely healed and all.
Brooks
Correa had some at-bats last spring which takes off a little of the shine for me. But you made a point about the injury. I might have to go with Appel as well.
Ashitaka
Meaning you're not as jazzed to see him because you already saw him some last year, or you're less high on him because of what you saw in those ABs?
Brooks
Less jazzed since I've seen him at the ML level. I'm not down on him by any means. This will be Appel's first real shot against ML guys.
Ashitaka
That's true. I hope they actually use these guys seriously, though, after talking about inviting fewer people to camp so they can get better looks at people.
Anthony Boyer
I don't recognize that name. Mark who?
Brooks
It's a new season, Anthony. Your season long denial is up.
Anthony Boyer
Joe Sclafani. How is this even a question?
Irish Pete
Anthony, I initially typed out Joe Sclafani. Then I backspaced it all away and went with Mark Appel. Mainly, because I wanted to see what quip you would have about him.
Brooks
Don't sleep on Joe Sclafani!
Who are you excited to see play against major league players?
