Astros Prospects Compete For Postseason Awards

As the big league team plays in the postseason, several Astros prospects and affiliates duke it out for postseason awards.

As the Houston Astros front office celebrates their first postseason berth in a decade, their minor league affiliates and players continue to rake in awards. Yesterday, it was announced that the Fresno Grizzlies' (AAA) General Manager, Derek Franks, was named the PCL Executive of the Year:

But that's not all. Over on, you can vote for the 2015 MiLBYs - and there are a lot of Houston affiliates and players represented.

In the Top Offensive Player category, there are not one but two Astros prospects nominated: A.J. Reed and Tyler White. Additionally, two former Astros prospects, Brett Phillips and Domingo Santana - both traded to the Brewers in July as part of the package to acquire Mike Fiers and Carlos Gomez - are nominated.

Phillips and Reed also both appear under the Breakout Prospect category, alongside another former Astros prospect, Jacob Nottingham, who was traded along with Daniel Mengden to the Athletics in July to acquire Scott Kazmir, who will be the starting pitcher for Game 2 of the ALDS.

Three Astros affiliates - the Quad Cities River Bandits (A), Corpus Christi Hooks (AA), and Fresno Grizzlies - are nominated for Best Team. The Hooks, in particular, are no surprise, as they had more regular-season victories than any team in minor league baseball with 89. The Astros are also nominated for Best Farm.

Reed shows up again under Best Performance, for his three home run, nine RBI game in Lancaster; his teammate, Derek Fisher, is also nominated for a twelve-RBI game in his Lancaster Jethawks (A+) debut. Chris Devenski's Triple-A debut rounds out the Astros' nominees in the category. In that game, Devenski allowed just one hit and struck out nine over seven innings to defeat the Columbus Clippers and win the Triple-A National Championship.

Fresno shows back up in the Best Promo category, for their Taco Truck Throwdown, in which they wore... well, they wore this. And it was awesome. The Hooks show up over in the Top Play category, with a triple steal.

Voting continues until October 27.
