Guzman Backs Into DL and Santana Returns

The Astros have placed IF/OF Jesus Guzman on the DL for back spasms and will call up Domingo Santana from AAA Oklahoma City.

The Houston Astros Announced Sunday morning that the have placed Jesus Guzman on the 15-Day Disabled List and will be re-calliing Domingo Santana from AAA Oklahoma City.

Guzman was pulled from a recent game with back spasms and went through tests yesterday to determine whether or not a DL stint would be necessary. Well, that was obviously the case. There was evidence that this was in the works late last night when Santana was pulled from the RedHawks game between the 7th and 8th innings.

This will be Santana's second stint with the Astros as he was sent down after struggling mightily against major league pitching. He struck out eleven times in thirteen plate appearances without picking up a hit. He lasted just four games.

In his last ten games at the triple-A level, he's hit .297/.366/.432 with two doubles and a home run. He struck out eleven times and walked four times in those 41 plate appearances.

Here is a video of Santana's swing in a recent game in the minors at 240 frames per second.
