Weekly College State Roundup: 5/2/15 - 5/4/14

Three first-round candidates were shelved this weekend: Texas Christian lefty Brandon Finnegan, East Carolina righty Jeff Hoffman, and UNLV righty Erick Fedde. Meanwhile, Carlos Rodon continued to look pretty sharp, striking out eight over six and two-thirds innings, while Aaron Nola once again looked mortal.

The garish pitching line of the week went to Maryland right-hander Jake Stinnett, who struck out thirteen Fighting Irish batters over nine scoreless innings, with four hits and three walks allowed. His counterpart in that game, Notre Dame's Pat Connaughton, threw a complete game of his own, going eight innings with four strikeouts, two walks, five hits, and two runs allowed. Connaughton, a two-way star in baseball and basketball, has shown steady improvement since the end of Notre Dame's basketball season, and could be primed for a high-round draft pick this June.
