The rash of injuries to the bullpen continues.
The Houston Astros General Manager, Jeff Luhnow, announced Wednesday that Anthony Bass has been placed on the 15-Day Disabled List and and have recalled reliever Josh Fields from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Bass' injury will be back dated to May 11th and has been classified as a right intercostal strain. Bass has been a mixed bag so far this season with a 4.50 ERA and minuscule strikeout rate but has had a very good walk rate and low BABIP. Bass has been used in late inning situations a few times and been used in multiple inning stints as well.
Fields was unofficially used as a closer for the Astros earlier this season with three save opportunities in as many days and ended with a notable blown save in Seattle. Fields struggled from there on out and ultimately optioned to OkC to build his confidence. Fields seems to have possibly done that very thing with a save Tuesday night while striking out the side.
