I don't know what I was thinking. Blame the fact that the cuts happened in the middle of my post on Cesar Izturis leaving the team. With 30 players officially on the roster, but only 26 of them healthy, Houston's 25-man roster appears set.
Those unhealthy players likely to open the season on the DL: Asher Wojciechowski, Alex White, Jesse Crain, Peter Moylan.
The 13 pitchers who will make the team: Chad Qualls, Matt Albers, Scott Feldman, Jarred Cosart, Brett Oberholtzer, Jerome Williams, Josh Fields, Dallas Keuchel, Brad Peacock, Lucas Harrell, Anthony Bass, Kevin Chapman, Raul Valdes.
The catchers: Jason Castro, Carlos Corporan, Carlos Perez (likely cut, but weird they haven't made a decision yet).
The infielders: Jose Altuve, Chris Carter, Matt Dominguez, Jonathan Villar, Jesus Guzman, Marwin Gonzalez
The outfielders: Robbie Grossman, Dexter Fowler, L.J. Hoes, Marc Krauss
The probable lineup:
1) Dexter Fowler, CF
2) Jose Altuve, 2B
3) Jason Castro, C
4) Chris Carter, DH
5) Jesus Guzman, 1B
6) Matt Dominguez, 3B
7) Robbie Grossman, LF
8) L.J. Hoes/Marc Krauss, platoon in RF
9) Jonathan Villar, SS
Probable starting rotation:
1) Scott Feldman
2) Jarred Cosart
3) Brett Oberholtzer
4) Brad Peacock
5) Lucas Harrell/Dallas Keuchel/Jerome Williams
Also note that the team has not set its roster yet. That could mean a few things. They could be working on acquiring a player to bolster first base. They could be trying to spin Lucas Harrell, who they view as a starter and not as a bullpen guy, into a useful piece.
Or, they could just be waiting until they break camp to set the roster.
Discuss.
